1. Scope and contact
This policy applies to the Reef Focus iPhone app, its widgets and system extensions, Study Groups, and this website. “We,” “us,” and “Reef Focus” refer to Reef Labs, the developer and operator of Reef Focus.
For privacy questions or requests, email reeffocus.support@gmail.com or use the support form.
2. Information kept on your device
Reef Focus stores the information needed to provide the features you choose to use. This may include focus sessions, goals, streaks, challenges, expedition history, selected pets, pet names and customization, app preferences, reminder settings, profile details you add, Study Assistant chats, notes, and attachments you save.
Widgets, Live Activities, Dynamic Island, StandBy, and related system surfaces receive only the information needed to show your current dive or selected companion through Apple-provided on-device mechanisms.
Reef Focus does not operate an advertising profile, use third-party advertising SDKs, or track your activity across other companies’ apps or websites.
3. iCloud Backup and Study Groups
When iCloud is available, Reef Focus enables automatic iCloud Backup by default. Selected app data and progress are copied to your private Apple iCloud/CloudKit container so they can be restored on another installation. You can turn automatic backup off in Reef Focus settings; turning it off stops new automatic copies but does not by itself delete an existing backup.
If you use Study Groups, the group name, preset icon and color, your chosen display name, membership and invitation information, selected companion, focus status, goals, and group activity needed for collaboration are stored and synchronized through Apple CloudKit. Group and member details are visible to participants. If an owner marks a group Public, its name, preset icon and color, member count, active count, and invitation code can also appear to signed-in Reef Focus users browsing Discover. Group owners and administrators can manage membership, and members can report or block abusive participants.
Apple processes iCloud and CloudKit information under Apple’s privacy terms. Group information may remain available to other participants until you leave, an owner removes you, the owner deletes the group, or Apple removes it according to its service behavior.
4. Permissions and Apple services
Screen Time
Focus Shield uses Apple Family Controls, Device Activity, and Managed Settings. The apps, categories, and websites you select are represented by privacy-preserving tokens and managed on your device. Reef Focus does not receive a readable list of your selections or your browsing history.
Photos, camera, and files
You may choose photos, take a picture, or attach files to Study Assistant chats. Reef Focus accesses only items you select or create. In this release, photo attachments are stored with your chat but their pixels are not analyzed. On supported devices, Study Assistant uses Apple-provided on-device capabilities to process text prompts. Reef Focus does not send those materials to a Reef Focus-operated AI server.
Notifications, calendars, reminders, and alarms
If you grant permission, Reef Focus uses Apple notification, calendar, reminder, or alarm capabilities only to perform actions you request. You can change these permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
Motion
Optional motion access is used only for a visual depth effect and not for advertising or tracking.
Location and weather
When you request current weather and allow location access, Reef Focus rounds the coordinate to two decimal places (approximately one kilometre) before sending it to the MET Norway Weather API. MET Norway states that direct app requests place the user’s IP address and transmitted coordinate in access logs stored in its data centre in Oslo, Norway. Reef Focus does not use location for advertising or tracking. Weather data is provided by MET Norway under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license.
5. Purchases
Purchases, subscriptions, trials, regional pricing, receipts, and restoration are handled through Apple StoreKit and the App Store. Reef Focus receives product and entitlement status needed to display offers and unlock features, but it does not receive your full payment-card details.
6. Website, support, and providers
This website does not set advertising cookies or use cross-site tracking. OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare provide hosting and security and may process basic request information such as IP address, browser type, timestamps, and security logs to deliver and protect the site.
When you submit the support form, the name, reply-to email, device details, topic, and message you provide are delivered to reeffocus.support@gmail.com through FormSubmit. A Study Group report also includes the group identifier and, for a member report, the reported member identifier shown on the form. FormSubmit processes the submission to deliver it and may retain submission records under its own policy. Do not include passwords, payment-card numbers, or other unnecessary sensitive information.
Apple, MET Norway, FormSubmit, OpenAI Sites, and Cloudflare receive only the information needed for the functions described above. We require providers acting on our behalf to use personal information only for the requested service and to provide the same or equivalent protection described in this policy and required by applicable law. Providers may also process information under their own published privacy terms.
7. How information is used
We use information only to provide features you request, maintain your settings and progress, synchronize collaboration, unlock purchases, respond to support, protect the app and website, comply with law, and improve reliability. Reef Focus does not sell personal information and does not use it for third-party targeted advertising.
8. Retention and deletion
Local information remains until you delete the relevant records or remove the app and its local data. iCloud backups and Study Group data follow your backup setting, group actions, Apple Account controls, and Apple’s retention behavior. Support correspondence is kept only as long as reasonably needed to resolve the request, maintain necessary support records, prevent abuse, or meet legal obligations. Infrastructure and service-provider logs follow the applicable provider’s retention schedule.
You can withdraw a permission in iOS Settings, turn off automatic backup in Reef Focus, remove local logs and chats, leave or manage a Study Group, and manage iCloud app data through your Apple Account. Withdrawing permission may disable the related feature but does not affect earlier lawful processing.
To request access, correction, or deletion of information controlled by Reef Focus, use the support form and select “Privacy or data request,” or email reeffocus.support@gmail.com. We may need to verify the request. Some information is controlled directly by your device, Apple, or another provider and cannot be accessed or deleted by us.
9. Children
Reef Focus is a general productivity app for a broad audience and is not designed to collect children’s personal information for advertising. Children should use collaboration and support features only with the consent required by their parent, guardian, school, and applicable law. If you believe a child provided personal information without appropriate permission, contact us so we can review and remove it where applicable.
10. Security and international processing
We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the information involved, but no device, storage system, or internet transmission is completely secure. Apple, MET Norway, FormSubmit, and hosting providers may process information in countries other than your own under their respective terms.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Reef Focus evolves or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will be updated when changes are published. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or on this website.
